Greek Mythology Stories
Poseiden was the god of the seas, but he was not satisfied just ruling the sea. He wanted all the land for himself, but Athena also wanted control over the land. Athena and Poseiden decided that they should do a contest featuring who can make the best gift for the humans. Poseiden made a river, but it was entirely made out of salt water, so the people could not drink the water. Athena made an olive tree, and it kept on giving. People could eat the olives, make olive oil, and more. In thanks of her olive tree, the land was named after her. They call it Athens, Greece. The people also built the Parthenon, a famous structure in the Acropolis, for her.
Although Zeus had many kids, he likes Artemis the most. When she was a kid, he gave her a wish list so she could ask for anything in the world. here is what she asked for:
- To stay single forever and never marry
- A bow and arrow
- A tunic to wear while hunting
- 60 nymphs to be friends and hunting partners
- All the mountains in the world
According to the Greeks, when you die, you are sorted based on how good you were. If you were good, you went to Elysium. Elysium is a place of paradise. The sun is always shining and it is beautiful. If you were bad, you went to Tartarus. Tartarus is a place for punishment. It is dark and dreary.
